Endoscopic Laser Surgery
Percutaneous Stone Surgery
With the advent of improved fiberoptics and design, newer endoscopes are available that greatly improve access to the entire urinary tract through the natural urinary channel. Use of these state-of-the-art endoscopes in combination with the Holmium:YAG laser enables our urologists to treat urinary stones more effectively than ever before without the need for any incisions. In cases where a kidney stone has grown to an extremely large size (i.e. greater than 3 centimeters), we have the instruments to clear these stones minimally invasively through a small percutaneous puncture in the skin directly overlying the kidney. Previously, these “staghorn” stones could only be treated with major open surgery in which the kidney was “bi-valved” to gain access to the stone.
